First stop in Merida, the Capitol of the Yucatan State, a city steeped in history and rapidly becoming a culinary destination.

Yucatan Mexico

An Adventure To Remember

The beautiful colonial city of Merida, the capital city of the Yucatan State in Mexico, is a charming small town graced with historical architecture, cathedrals, winding streets, bustling markets, shops, excellent restaurants, museums, and a lively Plaza Grande. In the evenings, visit the Plaza Grande, where music, dancing, and a celebratory air bring joy to all. The Maya Museum of Merida is a must-visit to immerse yourself in the history of the Mayan civilization that once populated the Yucatan Peninsula. Merida is also an ideal base for day trips to famed Cenotes, natural pools that offer a welcome respite from the nearly year-round heat.

The oldest cathedral in Mexico, Catedral de San Ildefonso stands on the site of an ancient Maya Temple.

Merida is a stunning city and perfect for exploring on foot. Merida is also a great base for visiting nearby Maya Ruins and Cenotes.

Founded in 1545 the Temple de San Servacio (above left) anchors the town square Parque Principal Francisco Cantón Rosado/

The Hotel Mesón del Marqués in the charming and quaint city of Valladolid , features fine courtyard dining and warm Mexican hospitality.

History, Charm and Eco Adventures

The network of buses from nearby towns to local attractions is safe and dependable, and exploring the Yucatan is best by car on your schedule. Visitors come from around the world to experience and visit the ancient Maya ruins, Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Tulum, and many others.

There are many small and quaint beach towns on the Caribbean coast and the Gulf of Mexico to visit. Ecotourism is fascinating in the Yucatán Peninsula. Unique biospheres including the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, and Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, are populated with creatures great and small and unique and distinct ecosystems. We explored the fascinating Ria Lagartos Biosphere from the water on a guided tour, and the adventure was brilliant.

Beyond its most famed and popular beach destinations, the Yucatan offers an exciting sense of discovery. Steep in well-preserved architecture, perched on the cliffside, near Maya sites or painted yellow the quaint town of the Yucatan including Valladolid, Isamal, Tulum, and Progresso offers unique charms and attractions. Most are great for leisure exploration and time well spent on walkabouts. From the colors to history and from the flavors to the friendliness discovering the Yucatan, on land and the waters make for a fascinating journey.

Next Stop, the beach town of Progresso, a dining and day getaway from Merida residents and a great base for day adventures to Uxmal and Chichen Itza.

In Progresso we spent a relax day at the chic Marymar Beach Club in Progresso. Craft cocktail and the innovative Mexican cuisine was indeed, very progressive.

We traveled to the coastal town of Sisal for a kayaking tour into the mangroves and lunch on a stunning private beach.

Our last stop Rio Lagartos. An exception tour by Rio Lagartos Adventures made of for a remarkable day. Stay for dinner on the deck overlooking the bay at the family owned Ria Maya restaurant.
