This past summer at Gurney’s Montauk, we took in the beach vibes and chatted with the owner of a Maserati MC20 Cielo about his stunning supercar. During the conversation, he revealed his new daily drive – a Rivian R1S. Curious about his choice, we asked why, and he explained that, for him, it all came down to the design and the fact that this electric, three-row SUV has an 410-miles plus of range was just the icing on the cake.
That was all we needed to hear before reaching out to Rivian to test-drive the Gen 2 R1S ourselves. It had been a while since our last encounter, and we wanted to see if the hype held up—and it did. Both the R1S SUV and R1T pickup have been completely reengineered, with hundreds of hardware improvements, performance upgrades, a fully redesigned software experience, and evolved in-house drive systems—all while maintaining Rivian’s iconic exterior design that we love.
“We continue to evolve our flagship R1 vehicles, offering quality and performance without compromise,” said RJ Scaringe, Rivian CEO and founder. “Our revamped R1S and R1T push the technical boundaries further, creating our most capable products to date.”
Rivian has added convenient tech features, like the ability to use Apple Wallet or select Google Pixel devices to unlock and start the vehicle, along with sharing digital keys with friends. Inside, Rivian Premium Audio with Dolby Atmos® offers an immersive sound experience, and the new Dynamic Glass Roof can be tinted at the touch of a button, keeping the cabin airy yet private. Customizable interior lighting, redesigned software powered by Unreal Engine, and playful, real-time graphics elevate the adventurous spirit of the Rivian community.
