Just in time for the spring, a delightful new annual release has emerged, paying homage to Barbados and encapsulating the unique terroir that defines the birthplace of rum. Now, introducing the inaugural release of the Single Estate Series from Mount Gay Rum—the First Edition, marking a historic debut in the world of exceptional spirits.
In 2015, Mount Gay acquired 324 acres of the historic Mount Gay Estate, marking the first time in centuries that the distillery became a fully vertically integrated operation, overseeing the entire process from cane cultivation to bottle production. Since then, the team has annually harvested sugar cane from the Estate, converting them into molasses. The fermentation, distillation, and aging take place at the St. Lucy distillery. Master Blender Trudiann Branker skillfully managed the Estate distillates until she deemed the rum ready for release.
“The Single Estate Series is as Barbadian as rum could be. Growing Barbadian sugar cane to make Barbadian molasses and bringing every element of the rum production together at our home in St Lucy, the birthplace of rum, was a unique journey,” commented Master Blender Trudiann Branker. “This release is a first for us, the first estate rum we’ll launch at Mount Gay.
This new Single Estate Series 23_01 is a blend of 2016 and 2017 harvests. It is 100% copper pot still and aged in ex-bourbon casks, allowing the flavor of the rum and its unique terroir to shine.
