It’s been some time since we first drove the HUMMER EV SUV Edition 1 and we came away more than impressed. So, we had to follow up with a lifestyle-rich test of the HUMMER EV, first on the streets of NYC and then on the beaches of East Hampton.
We recently got our hands on a HUMMER EV SUV in a stunning color that turned heads everywhere. Its bold design and road presence are unmatched, bringing style and substance. Engaging technologies created an intense and dramatic user experience for drivers and passengers. Features like the standard Infinity Roof and modular Sky Panels provided an open-air feel, letting us enjoy the nearly silent ride during outdoor road trips.
We love that the HUMMER EV SUV is designed as a two-row SUV with a shorter wheelbase, optimizing its maneuverability while offering secure rear storage. Its instantly recognizable proportions convey the HUMMER EV’s aggressive stance. “Designing the pickup and SUV simultaneously allowed us to give each its own unique features to maximize utility,” said Phil Zak, HUMMER EV design executive director. “The SUV’s compact proportions create a distinct profile and spacious cargo area while maintaining a roomy, architecturally inspired cabin.”
From the bold “look at me” front end to the unique rear design, the HUMMER EV SUV stands out. It features a full-size spare tire mounted on a power swing-out tailgate. Using one of three button options, the swing gate opens automatically, like a vault, wider than the vehicle itself. This extra width creates an unimpeded 48-inch opening, making it easier to load gear and supplies. The spare tire mount also cleverly houses a rear-facing camera, assisting with reverse maneuvers and trailer alignment.
The “Off-Road Chic” HUMMER EV SUV is the complete package, thanks to its 300-plus mile range, rapid recharge times, removable roof, and luxurious interior. With a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a center-mounted 13.4-inch touchscreen, it truly stands out. The generous interior space made us think of it as a New York City apartment on wheels.
