Lexus set the automobile industry abuzz in Shanghai with the debut of the eighth-generation Lexus ES—now available as a hybrid and, for the first time, as a fully battery-electric model. The new ES lineup also includes front- and all-wheel-drive options, broadening its appeal. Central to the unveiling is Lexus’s new design philosophy: Clean Tech x Elegance—a concept that elevates the signature sophistication of the ES while blending functionality and emotion into a clean, modern aesthetic.
The new design language shines at the front, where a sharply sculpted spindle shape flows confidently from the hood to the bumper corners. A contrast in height between the low nose and horizontally oriented fenders delivers a bold and unmistakable presence. A slim upper grille enhances cooling efficiency without compromising the silhouette of the hybrid models. Along the side, the profile is taut and streamlined, minimizing perceived height while refined shoulder contours enhance aerodynamics. The result is a trunkless look that feels sleek, contemporary, and unmistakably powerful.
Inside the cabin, Lexus focused on creating a best-in-class sedan experience. The platform has been reengineered from the ground up, with redesigned structural elements improving both comfort and performance. Compared to its predecessor, the new ES is about 6.5 inches longer, with a wheelbase stretched by 3 inches, translating to a more spacious interior. The seating position has also been raised to make ingress and egress easier, while providing a commanding view of the road.
Powering the 2026 Lexus ES are both hybrid and all-electric options. The ES350h pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and is available in both front- and all-wheel drive. The all-electric ES models—the ES350e and ES500e—bring zero-emission performance to the lineup, offering choices between front-wheel and all-wheel drive.
The future of luxury sedans has arrived, and it’s looking sharper—and smarter—than ever.
