It is interesting the house of Gucci is family obsessed of late. For a while, the house-made Granny-Chic a thing. Oversized knits, heavy sweaters, pleated skirts, and below-the-knee swing skirts, chunky modernist orthopedic shoes, and large glam-Gran glasses fastened with neck chains put on with hodge-podge abandon. The collections are singular in their tone, and a norm-core glam-Gran would never look out of place on his runways, which are increasingly unisex and visually captivating. For Spring and Summer 2023 named ‘Gucci Twinsburg” identity, gender, and individuality are portrayed with a cunning eye.
The simplicity of identical twins, holding hands while they walked down the runway was elegant and moving. The collection, overwrought with influences including embroidered chinoiserie, 1970s sequined jackets, suits cut to reveal gender norms, show-biz glitz, pumped and proud sportswear, quilting, crisp denim, ethnic fabrics, flowing gowns, mistrial jumpsuits, rainbow bright, floral and animal prints to the barely there nude wrap dress. The collection is startling, energetic, and fresh in the best of ways. Watching the brilliant show, one wonders, are the experiences, feeling, and excitement of each twin, wearing the same clothing, holding the hand of their twin, identical, or are they as individual and each of the twins?
